Some notes:

  • Divine power. We are not talking batteries, or the power to turn a city back on after a hurricane, we are talking about divine power. It’s more than that.
  • “has” this is referring to past tense, these things have already happened.
  • It’s “granted” to us, it’s a gift, and there nothing you can do to earn favor to receive this gift.
  • John 6:65 – “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.”
  • Matt. 13:11 – And he answered them, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given(granted).
  • A friend of mine works for the government and he is granted access to information that only few have.
  • The odds of winning the lottery are very slim, yet how many millions are still playing it?
  • Yet look at Christ and His promises, if you come you will be saved. There is no “chance” it is a guarantee.
  • Matt. 7, don’t give what is holy to pigs. Pigs have no concept of the value of diamonds and if you give them to the pigs they will tear them up. Is it not true that we grown when things of precious value are given to those who are unworthy of it?
  • We see great things given to unworthy and wicked people and we should grown.
  • Look at the Lord’s mercy to grant such privileges to us! Who were once wicked and vile and slaves of sin.
  • life” as in eternal and spiritual life, not physical.
  • Means we have forgiveness of sins.
  • We need righteousness and we have that given to us in Christ.
  • We need faith and He grants us faith as a gift.
  • My son got a remote control car but he hasn’t been able to use it yet because there were no batteries included. God has not left us like this. He has given us all things that pertain to life. Nothing is lacking. Is this not enough?
  • Thanks be to God that Jesus not only rescues us from the wrath of God but grants divine power for godliness so that we don’t become entangled again in the slavery of sin.
  • “godliness” (holiness) is throughHim.Godliness is through the knowledge of God, you want to be holy? Then know Christ more.
  • The text says “to his own glory,” yet men like Herod sold the glory and God judged them (Acts 12:23). We are called to God’s own glory and not ours.
  • You cannot walk around and say you’re a slave of Christ yet also be a slave of sin because God has granted us power by which we will be holy and godly.
